Select an image of an object that you will use to place multiple words of text inside where the words represent parts of the image. Because we will not end up with the actual photo that you choose, you can use Google image to select your photo. Remember to save your images from Google in the proper way.
Make a new project as 8.5" x 11" or 11" x 8.5 inches in portrait or landscape mode, at 300 ppi resolution, CMYK color mode, with a white background.
File > Place your image, then position in the center of the artboardScale the image to a large portion of the artboard, then label the layer of this image as Original and Lock the layer.Trace the outline your image using the Pen Tool.Use the Pen Tool to draw the lines across the sections of your image that will display the wordsUse Shape Builder tool to make the sections and remove outside lines from the cut sectionsUse Path Offset to create space between your sectionsType out all the words that will be placed in your image, rotate each image sections horizontal, and use Envelope Distort to put the text into the sectionsDelete the outside pathAdd a Free Form Gradient background behind your illustration that fits with your target audience. You can use bright vibrant colors or a muted color palette.Reposition your image and add a Stylize > Drop Shadow to make it stand out.When your design is complete, turn off the eyeball to hide your original photo.Save the project as lastname + firstinitial_typographic1.ai (ex. pettyw_typographic1.ai and pettyw_typographic2.ai).Save as an AI, PDF, and PNG file.
